Treat Your Feet to an Organic Experience

It doesn’t matter which season we’re in—there are simply no corners to cut when it comes to clean and happy feet. Additionally, each footprint is different, and therefore your pedicures should be different as well. For those seeking a more organic spa experience, we’ve curated three eco-treatments you can create right at home!

A quick trip to the health food store will grant you access to cheaper sea salt and coconut oils than more conventional supermarkets, while the essential oils can be sourced for less online. Just be sure to purchase organic, 100% essential oils; don’t opt to substitute with the kind of fragrance vials available at craft stores.

Pink Himalayan Salt Soak

Ingredients:

2 tbsp. pink Himalayan salt (use a parmesan grater for desired texture)

1 drop cypress essential oil

1 drop tea tree essential oil

1 tsp. Dr. Bronner’s Pure-Castile Soap

Tub of warm water

Directions: Mix ingredients until equally distributed. Soak feet 15 minutes, or until skin plumps and softens.

Peppermint Exfoliation Scrub

1/4 cup sea salt

1/2 Tbsp. Dr. Bronner’s soap

3 Tbsp. organic fractionated coconut oil

2 drops peppermint oil (or any essential oil)

Directions: Mix all ingredients into a consistent yet rough paste. Spoon onto whole foot up to ankle bones, and massage into skin for roughly 10 minutes. This scrub is perfect for the stubborn buildup of dry, flaky skin on the heels and balls of the feet. Rinse thoroughly with warm water and pat dry. Variations on this recipe can include rosemary, thyme, or tea leaves for an extra invigorating experience.

Soothing Citrus Oil Treatment

1 part organic fractionated coconut oil

1 part organic aloe vera gel

1 drop wild or sweet orange essential oil

Directions: Mix ingredients in a glass jar with lid. Coat foot liberally with the mixture and massage into whole foot all the way up to the calves for about 5-7 minutes.

To maximize on the benefit of these recipes, certain areas of the foot can correspond to existing pains, ailments, and different regions of the body. For example, if you experience chronic sciatic pain, massaging the Citrus Oil treatment into the area roughly three to four inches above your ankle can alleviate soreness and pinching.
